Award-winning costume designer Paul G. Tazewell to be honored at FashionAFRICANA’s inaugural gala

TribLIVE.com: A costume is more than a piece of clothing to Paul G. Tazewell. The fabric is a part of the character. “I love the process, and I love collaborating with people,” said Tazewell, who has been designing costumes for Broadway, regional theater, film and television, dance, and opera productions for more than 30 years. “I hope I have honored the story (of the show) and each of the characters as honestly as I could.”

SAG-AFTRA Deal: What You Need to Know

collider.com: After a historic 118-day strike (the longest in the union's history), SAG-AFTRA has formed a tentative deal with the AMPTP and Hollywood's studios. With a deal finally struck, the industry's biggest upcoming productions can finally get back to work, with hugely anticipated projects like Deadpool 3, Beetlejuice 2, and more resuming production after the long delay. Formulating a deal that ensures fair and equal compensation for actors in the industry was certainly long overdue, yet even though the announced tentative deal puts an end to the long strike, some members of the industry aren't satisfied with some of the compromises SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP made (particularly as it pertains to artificial intelligence).

www.dezeen.com: The Las Vegas Sphere could set a new standard for tour design much like the iPhone did for mobile phones, set designer Es Devlin tells Dezeen in this interview. Devlin started her career in London's theatre scene of the 1990s before going on to conceive some of the most recognisable sets in the history of modern touring – from Kanye West's floating stages to a giant augmented-reality version of Bono.

Hurdles Made of Dollar Bills: The Gatekeeping of a College Education in Musical Theatre

AMT Lab @ CMU: Every year, thousands of high school seniors across the United States (and a privileged few from countries across the globe) participate in what laymen could only describe as the closest possible experience to a human cattle call: the musical theatre college audition process. From campus visits to testing to prescreens and the final audition, the process can cost thousands of dollars for an auditioner and their family, even without additional support like coaching or a summer intensive program. While, of course, institutional and governmental financial aid is available, these are not resources that are available to all students during their process and education.

Wallace & Gromit Creator Aardman Is Almost Out of Clay

gizmodo.com: Aardman Animations has been defined by its clay animation techniques. Known as Newplast plasticine, it’s been used since the studio’s inception back in 1972, in all its productions, from the Wallace & Gromit shorts to more recent fare like Star Wars Visions and Shaun the Sheep. You know you’re watching an Aardman production when you see it, and it’s hard to imagine them not doing claymation.

Edith Piaf to Be Resurrected Using AI to Star in Her Own Biopic

www.thewrap.com: Warner Music announced on Tuesday that it has partnered with the Piaf Estate on “innovative and groundbreaking AI technology” that will recreate Piaf’s voice and image. The first animated biopic of an artist using AI will chart Piaf’s life from the 1920s to the 1960s. Piaf died in 1963.

Design Unveiled for Expanded Institute for Contemporary Art in Pittsburgh

News - Carnegie Mellon University: Carnegie Mellon University unveiled the design for the Miller Institute for Contemporary Art’s new 29,000-square-foot home, prominently located in the new Richard King Mellon Hall of Sciences at the crossroads of the university’s campus and the city's iconic arts and cultural institutions along Forbes Avenue in Pittsburgh. Designed by ZGF Architects, the new museum will nearly triple the Miller ICA’s current size, with galleries and public programming spaces that will foster cross-disciplinary inquiry and community engagement.
