Worth a Look

Here are a few posts from last week's Greenpage that might be worth your time...

Honoring 101 Black Stage Managers | Stage Managers’ Association

Stage Directions: During this pause in our working lives, The Stage Managers’ Association has focused its energies on creating initiatives to better serve the entire theater community. The Stage Managers’ Association (SMA) is pleased to announce that they are partnering with the Black Theatre Caucus to raise the visibility and knowledge into the community of excellent Black Stage Managers.

COVID-19 Restrictions Being Lifted Doesn't Mean Venues Are Opening

Consequence of Sound: Over the past 24 hours, several states have reduced the restrictions in place to curb the spread of COVID-19. On Tuesday, both Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves abruptly decided to lift all capacity restrictions on businesses and end their states’ mask mandates starting next week. Then today, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that plays, concerts, and other performances can resume indoors at limited capacity beginning next month. Just because music venues are allowed to reopen, however, doesn’t mean they’re all jumping at the opportunity to do so.

The Case for a New Federal Theater Project

I wanna shot: How life on the road with Twisted Sister prepared the man running Baltimore County’s COVID vaccine sites

news.yahoo.com: Rock concerts and COVID vaccine clinics aren’t all that different, if you ask Terry Sapp. The man running the show at Baltimore County’s vaccine sites has spent decades training and coordinating emergency preparedness at the state and local levels. But he credits much of his skill to his years on tour with Twisted Sister across 20 countries from 2004 to 2016, working his way from blogger to production assistant, and as a stage manager for local 1980s cover band The Reagan Years.

German Circus Uses Holograms Instead of Live Animals

Nerdist: In 2019, Circus Roncalli out of Germany stopped using wild animals in its shows. They were just the latest of many troupes to make that decision. Even the now-defunct Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus began to phase elephants out of its own performances starting in 2015. But thanks to modern technology, you can still create an amazing spectacle even without mistreating innocent creatures.
