In the wake of a new study, the city declares Theater Season

Chicago Reader: Fall is traditionally the start of the performing arts season in Chicago (and elsewhere), but in the wake of so many stories about the precarious state of theater companies around the city and the nation, it feels even more important to highlight the work happening onstage right now. Last week, Mayor Brandon Johnson, Choose Chicago, and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) announced the launch of Theater Season, a new campaign to promote local theaters in partnership with the League of Chicago Theatres.

 

'Gladiator 2' Report Claims Extras Were Scanned for AI Usage Without Consent

collider.com: In a report from the Times of Malta, a number of extras claimed they were pulled aside by Gladiator 2 production officials in Malta to scan their likeness for AI usage, where the highly anticipated Ridley Scott-directed Gladiator sequel was filming prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Collider was not able to independently corroborate the claims, which were made by multiple extras speaking to the Times of Malta under the condition of anonymity.

Human voices are the new bootleg records

National | Globalnews.ca: In early 1969, Ken and Dub, two music fans from Los Angeles, found themselves in possession of some unreleased Bob Dylan songs recorded in 1967 that had been sent as demos to his music publisher. Copies of the acetate recording spilled out among people working in the recorded music industry. Ken and Dub, both employees at a major record distributor, saw these songs as a lost Dylan album and saw a financial opportunity.

AMERICAN THEATRE: Satire is what closes on Saturday night, goes an old theatrical saw, and more recently we’ve heard from some quarters that theatregoers would rather not have politics mixed in with their entertainment. Well, if this year’s list of most-produced plays is any indication, TCG member theatres are banking that that’s not the case—or at least not entirely.
