Well, That's One Way

Life In A Subprime Ghost Town: Not Paying The Mortgage Feels "Great!": "
Sinclair: We went through months of being skinflints, because we knew that we were going into the red, so we didn't buy anything. All the sudden, we had a bank full of money and we're living rent-free, but we know that's not really our money.

Vigeland: How does that feel?

Esmeralda Sinclair: Great! Like he said, we were so tight with money..."

the comment thread on this one is interesting and revealing of the mental climate in america. my gut reaction is aligned with the majority of the commenters in feeling disgusted with the smugness and willed-oblivion of the Sinclairs given the impending consequences. i also really hope that all these people who signed contracts they could not honor are not all bailed out by the government in a few months as that would seem like a validation of the current american style of living well beyond one's means.

at the same time, i always like to see someone stick it to the financial institutions and their course of action does seem to be a thoroughly sound business decision (hardly immoral). i absolutely condone their reaction even if their choices in the past were stupid.
