1. Do not answer unrecognized phone calls
2. Do not e-mail first thing in the morning or last thing at night
3. Do not agree to meetings or calls with no clear agenda or end time
4. Do not let people ramble—forget “how’s it going?” and embrace “what’s up?”
5. Do not check e-mail constantly—“batch” and check at set times only

7. Do not work more to fix overwhelm—prioritize

(i some how managed to delete parts of my previous comment, making it nearly unreadable)

Some possibe additions to this list (things i have learned in my first two weeks with a "real job" in the "real world")
1. you do not need to work on work every waking moment of your life (I am no longer at CMU...)
This has been a rough adjustment for me.

2. Even if your coworkers check their email every 10 seconds, doesn't mean you need to, when they ask if you read their most recent email, just say "no, i haven't gotten to it yet, i'll respond after my 6 hours worth of useless meeting."
