Could It Work?

Our new house has a staircase we're thinking of replacing with something more... dramatic.

I'm wondering if these treads are too small. Guess maybe we'll need to tape it out.

I seem to remember that most building codes require a tread depth of at least 10"...

yeah, but where?

This seems like a pretty clear outline of how spiral staircases need to be, which I guess would be the worst case scenario.

Sounds like a project for the BPTM/drafting class

I can't even tell you how long I've been dreaming about having a spiral staircase. I've even seen some spiral stair kits that you can get and just put one together. I'm sure there is more to it than that, but for me it would be worth it. How did your stairs turn out?

In fact, we determined fairly quickly that there wasn't room for a winder in the space we had.

We changed it up and decided to do an open frame staircase instead, and then almost discovered that due to code we couldn't do that either. But we were able to make it work in the end.
